Presentation Abstract:
Effective Practices for Grammar Issues in Short ESL Writing Tutorials
Writing center tutors often face the challenge of how to efficiently and successfully respond to ESL students’ grammar errors. In some cases, the grammar points a student wants to work on may not be the same issues the tutor sees as important. The challenge is further intensified by time and scheduling constraints. Informed by observations of tutoring sessions and interviews with tutors at CCSF and SFSU and a review of published and online resources, the presenter will identify some common grammar issues and offer recommendations and resources for addressing them in light of institutional limitations.
